About Island Orthopaedics
Serving the State of Hawaiʻi since 2011
Established in 2011 by Dr. Garber and Dr. Kaneshige, Island Orthopaedics is a growing orthopaedic practice in Hawai'i. All of our surgeons have completed fellowship training in trauma, sports medicine, shoulder and elbow surgery, adult reconstruction, or hand surgery, and all have had extensive training and experience utilizing modern techniques in their subspecialties. Our surgeons specialize in a range of orthopaedic needs including total hips, total knees, shoulder issues, knee injuries, hand surgery, arthritis, fractures, and foot and ankle injuries. Our orthopaedic surgeons have significant ties to the community in Hawai'i. Prior to advancing our orthopaedic practice, many of us either grew up in Hawai'i or spent a significant part of our training in the medical systems of Hawai'i. We provide a significant amount of orthopaedic care to the under-served community in Hawai'i. Appointments are available at our Honolulu Office in Kaimuki, Castle Professional Center in Kaneohe, Queen's Medical Center West Orthopaedic Center in Ewa Beach and Queen's North Hawaii Community Hospital Orthopedic Clinic in Kamuela. We provide orthopaedic coverage for the Queen's Medical Center, Queen's Medical Center West Oahu, Castle Medical Center in Kaneohe, Queen's North Hawai'i Community Hospital, and Kuakini Medical Center. As our practice continues to grow, we may provide orthopaedic coverage to other areas in the state of Hawai'i. As Hawai'i`s premier orthopaedic surgeons, we promise to do our best at your appointment to service you with the best quality care possible. If you have any concerns or questions about our services, please call us at (808) 548-7033. We will work together as a team to take care of you and your family.
Our Mission
At Island Orthopaedics, our mission is to provide accessible, high-quality surgical and non-surgical orthopaedic care for people of all ages across the state. A part of our mission is also to provide education for tomorrow's orthopaedic surgeon leaders. In our training to become orthopaedic surgeons, we have spent a considerable amount of time in higher education. Many of us studied in the University of Hawai'i system and now are faculty in the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa - John A. Burns School of Medicine. We have all obtained specialized fellowship training at prominent teaching institutions on the mainland, prior to returning to Hawai'i. We provide education service for the residents enrolled in the ACGME-approved University of Hawai'i Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program. In addition, we educate local medical students from the John A. Burns School of Medicine as well as visiting medical students interested in orthopaedic surgery in Hawai'i. We feel that providing education to the future leaders of orthopaedic surgery in Hawai'i is a significant way for us to give back to the community. As university-affiliated orthopaedic surgeons in Hawai'i, we take on the most challenging orthopaedic cases, including pelvis fractures, revision hip and knee replacements, non-unions, and microvascular replantation. Our ability to take on difficult cases gives us extensive experience that we use in cases that would be considered routine, such as total knee replacements, anterior cruciate ligament injuries, total hip replacements, carpal tunnel releases, arthroscopy, and more. We have experience in the latest techniques including minimally invasive arthroscopy, direct anterior hip approaches, and robotic joint reconstruction.
